Wherein Lance meets Joey.

Sex was loud.  Not eardrum-shattering, launch-pad loud.  But it could be fairly noisy, what with the moaning and the panting and "uh uh uh uh."

Lance hadn't realized how loud sex could be.  Then he'd joined *NSYNC.  Being in a hotel, turning off the lights, settling into bed, and realizing that Joey was in the next room with a girl...  Lance had learned fast to try to get a room far away from Joey.  Or else to hide his head under the pillows.

But Joey was nothing compared to JC and Justin.  God damn, they were loud.  Vocal.  Panting and moaning and begging and panting and moaning and screaming and panting and moaning and it never ended.  As soon as Lance thought that JC and Justin had stopped, the noises would start all over again.  Lance would have given anything to cripple their stamina.

At first, when he'd heard them, he'd been embarrassed.  Then he'd been annoyed.  Then he was amused.  After a while, he'd gotten used to it, and it was just another sound.

Lance's own sex life picked up for a time.  With AJ.  AJ had been everything to him.  AJ came out of nowhere and changed his world, owned his world.  And then disappeared.  And now he was alone again.

He wondered, though, how he and AJ had sounded through the walls.  But he didn't want anyone to listen to him making love.  He didn't want anyone to sit there and eavesdrop and try to guess what he was doing to accompany each sound.

Chris's sex life wasn't very noisy.  Run-of-the-mill vocalizations.  And Lance's own sex life was good and satisfying, but not exactly loud.

He wondered why Joey's sex life was loud.  What was Joey doing to those girls?

He wondered whether how loud it was corresponded closely with how good it was.  Did it have to be loud to be good?  Did it have to be good to be loud?  And there was a difference in how loud the vocalizations were, compared with their heartfelt intensity.

He'd never seen a love to match JC and Justin's.

He'd never heard anything like Justin's "oh god JC oh god JC oh god JC."

Although, Chris did a great impression of Justin's orgasms.  Not that JC knew that.

Some people were naturally more vocal in bed.  Some were less vocal.  Maybe it was shyness.  Maybe it was respect for the neighbors.  Maybe it was because they didn't need aural stimulation to have a good time.

If noisy sex was good sex, the fact that JC and Justin were extra-loud was solid evidence in support.  Did that mean that Joey had better sex than Chris?  Did it mean that Lance wasn't having good sex?  Maybe noisy sex was good sex, but good sex wasn't necessarily noisy sex.

Maybe JC and Justin needed muzzles.

Lance could ask Joey about it.  Joey would tell him anything.

He wondered, again, how he and AJ had sounded.

Lance was ready for bed, sitting on his bed, waiting for Joey to leave so he could get some rest.  Joey was between parties, hanging out in Lance's room while waiting for security to escort hangers-on from the hotel.

        "Uh uh uh uh..."

        Joey snorted.

Lance looked at the wall dividing his room from JC and Justin's.  He'd thought they'd gone to sleep.

"My favorite lullabye," Joey said.  "Later tonight, that'll be me.  Uh uh uh uh!"

Sure sounded like JC had great rhythm.

"I used to think it would be creepy, hearing that all the time," Joey said.  "But I got used to it.  It's JC and Justin.  And it isn't creepy hearing Chris and Howie, because they're not that loud.  I'll tell you what was weird.  Hearing you and AJ."

        "What?"

"Don't ever, ever, ever ask me about the time I heard Brian, Nick, and Drew.  I didn't know what it was at first.  I must have walked past their hotel room at the exact moment of-"

"Joey!"  Lance was used to being a spectator at JC and Justin's sex life.  He didn't want to know about anyone else's.  "You heard me and AJ?"

"Oh, oh, god, oh, oh, god..."  Joey moaned, lowering his voice, closing his eyes.  "Oh, oh, god, oh-"

        Lance couldn't believe it.

        "Oh, oh, god..."

        Could not believe it.

"Oh, AJ, AJ, oh...oh..."  Joey was breathing hard.  "Oh, AJ...oh..."  He opened his eyes.

Lance leaned off of the bed and smacked him.

"Your voice gets lower when you do that," Joey said.  "I thought it was supposed to get higher."

"I do not sound like that."  He knew he didn't.  He'd never-

Joey cleared his throat.  "Uh, oh, uh, oh, yeah-"

        Lance stared.

"-uh, oh, uh, oh, yeah, Lance-"

This time, Lance stood when he hit Joey.  Okay, so Joey had heard him with AJ.  Boy, that sure brought back memories.  God, AJ had always sounded so sexy...

"When Harry Met Sally," Joey said.  "The movie, is it Meg Ryan in the diner imitating an orgasm?  When I was younger, that always got me off.  I knew I could make a woman sound like that."

Joey must have been confident about his sexuality at age three.

"I wonder if I could make a man sound like that, too."

"Justin sounds better than that any day," Lance said.  More accurately, every day.  "Joey, of course you can make a man come.  It's pretty easy."  If Chris could do it...

"I don't just mean make a guy come.  I mean make him like it.  The way JC makes Justin like it.  The way AJ made you like it."

"No human being will ever sound the way Justin sounds for JC."  Lance didn't know whether to feel loss that he'd never make noises for AJ again, or to feel anger and embarrassment at Joey listening to him when he had made those noises.

"I bet I could do it.  I can make women do it, I can make men do it."

"I guess we'll never know," Lance said.  It wasn't like Joey was going to start screwing men.

Joey looked at him.  "I guess not."
